She brings more than 30 years of experience in social entrepreneurship, impact investing, and banking
THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS— May 1, 2020 — Marilou van Golstein Brouwers was today appointed Chair of the Stichting BRAC International Supervisory Board, which governs BRAC’s work in its ten countries of operation outside Bangladesh. She succeeds Ameerah Haq, who resigned as a Member and Chair of the BRAC International Board to focus on her responsibilities as Chair of the BRAC Global Board, which oversees all BRAC entities around the globe.
“I am delighted that Ms. van Golstein will serve as Chair of the BRAC International Board,” said Ameerah Haq. “With her deep experience in impact investing, financial inclusion, and social entrepreneurship, she will be a strong ally as BRAC expands its financial services for the poor, grows its social enterprises, and lifts millions of families out of poverty by 2030.”
Ms. van Golstein, who has been a member of the BRAC International Board since March 2019, brings with her more than 30 years of experience in global impact investing and banking.
Most notably, she spent three decades with Triodos Bank, where she was a founder, Managing Director, and Board Chair of Triodos Investment Management and, later, a Managing Director of Triodos Regenerative Money Center. She also currently serves as Chair of the Supervisory Board of BRAC International Holdings BV, a subsidiary of Stichting BRAC International that manages BRAC’s microfinance operations in six countries.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic threatens to plunge millions of people back into poverty, BRAC International is poised to provide vital leadership during this critical juncture,” said Dr. Muhammad Musa, Executive Director of BRAC International. “Ms. van Golstein brings a breadth of experience and a track record of leadership that will be invaluable as we reaffirm our mission to create opportunity for millions of people living in poverty.”
Ms. van Golstein brings extensive board experience to her new role. She is a current board chair at B Lab Europe, Qredits The Netherlands, and Triodos Foundation and a board member at the Global Impact Investing Network and Invest-NL.
