Myanmar

BRAC began its journey in Myanmar in 2013. We support people in hard-to-reach areas and conflict zones to access banking services and connect with local markets. We also help smallholder farmers adapt to climate change.

Myanmar is a country of about 55 million people. About 10% of the population lives in extreme poverty, surviving on less than USD 3 per day. The country’s long-standing civil war and natural disasters continue to displace people and slow progress. With access to financial services and job opportunities, women can lift themselves and their families out of poverty.

Our Work

Myanmar

Myanmar’s economy depends mostly on farming, small businesses, and natural resources. Many people grow rice, the country’s main crop. But even with these resources, many families struggle to earn enough.

For decades, Myanmar has faced conflict, political unrest, and natural disasters. This makes it difficult for some individuals and families to access education, healthcare, and employment. Women and people with disabilities face even greater barriers. But with the right tools and opportunities, women are investing in their futures and leading the path forward.
