Jhorna and her family in Bangladesh had fallen on hard times. To make ends meet, she took out a $50 loan from BRAC Microfinance to start a clothing shop. Soon, that one-room shop grew into a thriving business, leading her to a seminar on small enterprises, where she met the Dutch Ambassador. Word of her success eventually reached the Queen, who later visited her shop herself!
But the real legacy of her story isn't the royal recognition. It's the 16 girls she was able to employ as her business grew. The ten local children whose school fees she covered with her profits. And the college degree her son earned—all made possible thanks to the start a small loan provided Jhorna.
