Qatar Charity (QC) concluded a week of high-level engagement at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, advancing partnerships while bringing to global discussions its vision for a more inclusive, locally led and sustainable humanitarian and development system.

The Qatar Charity delegation, headed by Mr. Yousuf bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, Chief Executive Officer, participated in high-level events and strategic meetings with UN agencies, international NGOs, foundations and development partners.

Qatar Charity’s participation reflected the priorities it set ahead of UNGA81: strengthening Global South leadership, advancing localization, diversifying humanitarian financing, protecting children and empowering women and girls, promoting responsible innovation, and building partnerships that translate dialogue into action.

A stronger Global South voice

Central to Qatar Charity’s message was the need to rethink international cooperation at a time of growing humanitarian needs and pressure on traditional aid resources.

Qatar Charity advocated for a system in which Global South organizations and communities are not simply recipients or implementers of aid, but help shape priorities, financing and decision-making. It also emphasized that meaningful localization requires investment in local institutions and leadership, alongside greater recognition of solutions already emerging from the Global South.

These themes featured prominently in Qatar Charity’s engagement with BRAC, including discussions on scaling proven development solutions, strengthening South-South cooperation and advancing new models of international cooperation.

Reflecting on the week, Mr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari said:

“Today’s challenges require us to rethink how international cooperation works. The Global South brings experience, resources, institutions and solutions that must play a greater role in shaping the humanitarian and development system.

“Our aim is not simply to call for change, but to work with our partners to build it ,  through stronger local leadership, diversified financing, responsible innovation and partnerships that deliver lasting impact for communities.”

He added: “We leave New York encouraged by the partnerships strengthened and the areas of cooperation advanced. Our priority now is to translate these discussions into action.”
