In the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, that has been true since 2017. When floods come, when landslides strike, when a family runs out of food or a child needs care, it is the people closest to the crisis who respond first. BRAC works alongside those communities every day, delivering health care, clean water, shelter, education, and protection to the nearly one million people living there.
What holds a response like that back is rarely will. It is resources.
This World Humanitarian Day, acting now means backing the people on the frontlines with the support a real response demands. A response requires more than just the immediate aftermath of a disaster; there is long, sustained work that follows. That is what it takes, and sustaining it is something we can all be part of.
