Empowering dairy farmers & delivering quality milk across Bangladesh
BRAC Dairy and Food Project, popularly known as Aarong Dairy, is Bangladesh’s largest dairy brand. We ensure over 35,000 dairy farmers receive fair prices every day for their milk.
Aarong Dairy was created to address the challenges faced by people who took microfinance loans from BRAC and bought cows. The cows produced high quality milk, but the lack of a cold chain meant they were forced to sell the milk at any price they could get. Aarong Dairy built a cold chain, collecting milk through what has now expanded to 180 milk collection points located in rural areas, processing it centrally and retailing it across the country.
Aarong Dairy now processes over 150,000 liters of milk every day, producing ISO 22000-certified dairy products and making high quality milk accessible nationwide.

OUR STORY
From rural farms to urban tables: How BRAC builds a stronger Bangladesh milk industry
BRAC’s dairy story began in 1987, with our artificial insemination program to improve cattle breeds and boost milk yield. Output grew, but without storage facilities, much of the extra milk could not reach the market.
In 1998, we changed the game. BRAC introduced rural milk collection centers and chilling facilities, giving farmers the chance to sell surplus milk at a fair price. Today, we work with over 35,000 registered farmers, collecting about 150,000 liters of fresh milk every day through 180 milk chilling centers and collection points across rural Bangladesh.
BRAC Dairy processes this milk in our very own factory, transforming it into a variety of fresh milk products — from nutritious drinking milk to yoghurt and butter — for customers nationwide.
Our mission is simple but powerful: create sustainable livelihood opportunities for dairy farmers, improve national nutrition, and connect people with high-quality dairy products from Bangladesh.
“Only by putting people living in poverty in charge of their own lives will we remove poverty and deprivation from the face of the earth.””
