More than half of the more than a million Rohingya living in Cox's Bazar are children, many of whom have never known a classroom outside a refugee camp. BRAC runs 947 learning centers across the camps, where 47,000 children are receiving their primary education. For many, school is the safest, most stable part of their day.
For the youngest children, BRAC's 250 Humanitarian Play Labs offer a colorful space to play, create, and just be kids, with sessions rooted in traditional Rohingya songs, stories, and games. Child psychologists recognize play as essential to healing from trauma. Earlier this year, seven BRAC learning centers were destroyed in a fire, and others face closure due to funding cuts. Donor support is what keeps these spaces open.
This video is part of A week with the Rohingya, our campaign running June 12–18 in recognition of World Refugee Day. Each day, our colleagues Uday and Sidra are taking you inside a different aspect of daily life in Cox's Bazar, home to the world's largest refugee camp, where over a million Rohingya refugees shelter. BRAC has the largest presence of any NGO in these camps, and 100% of gifts to this campaign go directly to BRAC programming there.
Follow along as our colleagues take you inside the refugee camps in Cox's Bazar for A Week with the Rohingya.
